Robert Henry ~ Winemaker

Robert was born and raised in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York. His first career was in the pharmaceutical industry as a research chemist. However, after working in research and development for several years, he knew it wasn’t what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. Having discovered a love of wine, he left research behind, got on his motorcycle, and ended up a “cellar rat” first in Virginia and then in California. He was hooked and committed to a new career.

Robert realized very early on that viticulture is where the greatest gains in quality can be made when pursuing the highest level of winemaking. After a year of perfecting his cellar skills and working in an enology lab, he enrolled at Fresno State University. Here his main goal was to learn as much about viticulture and plant science as possible, while completing his enology studies.

Before graduation, Robert decided that Cabernet Sauvignon would be the focus of his career and, more specifically, Washington State Cabernet Sauvignon. But he first took a detour to hone his craft at Pahlmeyer Winery in Napa Valley, helping make one of the finest new world interpretations of a Bordeaux blend. Though he loved his work and the wine, he could not turn down the opportunity at Pamplin Family Winery to pursue his vision of creating perfection in a bottle with Washington State fruit.
